Closure & Parenthood

We tempted fate and returned to the same Chinese restuarant on Sunday night – about the same time as the robbery last week. She staff recognised us, and we had a good chat – turns out the police caught the bandits. The bandits had been having a merry time robbing the surrounding shops (Red Rooster, another Chinese restuarant) because the takings from robbing surburban restuarants just don’t cut it in the expensive times we live in.

And parenthood .. returned home today and was met with with frantic calls for help from Jo. But the picture didn’t fit the urgency of her calls – Jo was sitting serenely in a chair with Catherine on her lap. Not moving. Because if she did move, there would have been spillage. Of solid waste. That shot out the side of the nappy, onto Jo’s t-shirt. Now that’s my girl!

Armed Robbery

Had an eventful night tonight. We visited one of our favourite Sunnybank chinese restuarants for dinner after Church, just myself, Jo and Catherine. As we ate there was a commotion, and when I looked up saw two young males at the counter – all in black and wearing balaclavas. One had a small machete, the other a sawn-off .22 rifle.

The robbery probably lasted all of 30 seconds – but it felt a very long time and we were only sitting about three metres from the counter – too close for comfort and whenever a fiream is involved it is extremely scary.

The police were called and arrived quickly – the first a dog unit, a marked car and then an unmarked car with two Ds (=Detectives). I don’t think they have caught anyone yet because we saw a marked car slowly cruising down the road as we drove home.

Not fun – when sitting at a table with armed robbers three metres away, with my wife opposite me and nineteen day old daughter lying on my chest.
