Mmmm, food!

Yep, it’s time to talk about food again! Last week (yes, I know I’m slack and that it shouldn’t take me one whole week to blog about my activities!) I decided to make some Rocky Road and some toffees. It wasn’t just a spur of the moment thing…Scott decided he’d like some! So because I obey his every wish etc etc (*cough cough, splutter splutter*) I did it and it was good! Anyone want some?

Here I am sampling – to ensure it’s okay, of course! We’re almost ready for the chocolate! How colourful!

Yikes!

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, so sorry to all those who have been looking and waiting for photos and news of Catherine!

In my last post I mentioned that Catherine had started eating solids – rice cereal with apple puree. Now she is onto potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, avocado, broccoli and cauliflower as well. Unfortunately, she has developed a bit of nappy rash which we suspect is linked to the brocc and cauli. Needless to say, as of tonight, we have stopped feeding it to her. The poor bub has been crying and quite unsettled for the last two days which may have to do with the nappy rash and possibly, teething!

Catherine is also moving around quite a lot – something I have also mentioned. In fact the other day, Scott put her in front of her Baby Mozart DVD (Baby Einstein series) and when I went back later I found her in a totally different spot (see pics below)! She is moving backwards at the moment, which a friend of mine told me they do before the forward thing and at church last night, she actually got up onto her hands and knees and started rocking back and forwards in preparation for crawling. Scary stuff seeing as she is only 5 months old! Getting doors onto the fishtanks has become a top priority now!

Where’s Catherine? What’s she doing over there??!!

We think we’re very clever, don’t we? Hmm, I wonder where I could go with this?

That’s our daughter for you! We’re also trying to figure out what she’s going to be when she gets older. All we know is that it’s probably going to be something that takes a lot of energy…

Skydiving extraordinaire? Or a breaststroker?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick look at Catherine’s present stage of life, I’m certainly treasuring every moment of it!

Out with DRUG ARM

Tonight (in fact just got back – it’s 12:40 am currently) I went out with the DRUG ARM street van. I was asked at the last minute if I could fill in – because there was three girls on the team but by policy there must be a strong man on the team as well. Since one couldn’t be found I was asked to fill in anyway. :)

It was a great night, there were quite a few people in King George Square (here it is in 1942).

What made the night difficult was getting around the city, there was diversions and traffic snarls due to a rugby game (Broncos vs Roosters) at Suncorp Stadium – so we found ourselves crawling through peak-hour like traffic at 10:30pm.

Here are two pics of the William Jolly Bridge. I took these pics after visiting a ‘tent city’ where the homeless were staying, it was a great setup with mostly homemade tents and a wood fire. An incredible contrast when you look across to the city lights over the river, and the lights from Suncorp stadium (which cost $500 million dollars to redevelop).

Surprise Party

Last Wednesday we attended a surprise 50th birthday party for our pastor. It was held at the Brisbane Jazz Club, a really quaint old hall but sitting on a multi-million dollar block of dirt right on the river at Kangaroo Point – with the CBD just across the river.

It was a great night and amazingly the pastor had no idea, despite more than a few people letting slip in general conversation. Seems he wasn’t listening. ;)

Catherine has found her toes!

Catherine found her toes Wednesday last week! So cute to see her grabbing them!

She has also started solids – has been on it for 2 weeks now and loves her rice cereal with apple puree!

Fluffernutters!

For those of you not yet in the know, “Fluff” has been available in Oz for at least a couple of years now. I was introduced to it by an American teacher friend who used to teach at Southside Christian College (my other abode from which I am currently on maternity leave). No, I’m not being rude. I’m talking about a very, very yummy (and as you can see from the jar, fat free!) marshmallow spread that migrated from the U.S. After I had a taste of it, I just HAD to give some to Scotty and whaddaya know? He’s now addicted to the stuff!

There are a variety of uses for Fluff – you can use it as a substitute for jam in a peanut butter and jam sandwich, the result being a Fluffernutter; you can sandwich two biscuits together; make rocky road from it as well as stir it into a hot chocolate. It is, without a doubt, a very versatile food.

I recommend that you try some. For those living near us, the Pick n Pay Hypermarket stock it in the “spreads” aisle.
